Lupita Walks Lightly on the Earth
By Emily Lupita
About:
This painting is called, “Lupita Walks Lightly on the Earth.” It’s part of my I Believe in Seeds book featuring paintings depicting my childhood in rural Iowa. The series was made possible by a generous grant from Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.
The painting features Lupita and two wild raccoons with rainbow wings. They are up on the hill in Springtime enjoying the incredible view of green trees and pink flowers. I was experimenting with my backgrounds during this time and wanted a soft, abstract representation of the meadow & forest area where I grew up. There’s a soft blue stream running through the center of the background.
I titled this painting after a favorite quote by Barbara Ward, “We have forgotten how to be good guests, how to walk lightly on the earth as its other creatures do.” I recently added this painting to my gift shop. One of my favorite items is the forest green tote bag. I donate 10% of all gift shop sales to World Central Kitchen.
Good journey,
