🎨 Welcome
How do we keep creating when our world is on fire? For me, the only way through has been to paint the fire.
I’m making the burn - the burning - part of my creative process as a way to survive it. Because it’s part of life. And creativity is imbedded inside life. I’m playing around with my new art project of self-portrait photography & self-portrait paintings. I’m starting to see in the photographs what only I can see - the fire of my life burning in the background. I’m painting that fire.
I read this poem the other day by Kalen Dion - and it spoke to me.
“Yes,
you will rise from the ashes,
but the burning comes first.
For this part,
darling,
you must be brave.”
The rising from the ashes part is the rebirth, the growth, the learning. But the fire - it comes first and brings with it loss and grief. And the shedding of an old version of ourself. Without one, without the other. This is life. This is what I’m learning.
However your creative projects allow you to walk through the fire, I am sending love to you. I hope you will keep going toward your creative dreams.
Good journey,

🌸 Cappadocia Continues!
I’m continuing everyday with my work on my new Cappadocia book. There’s so many pages in this book - the illustrations are really coming along. I underestimated the amount of time and work needed to complete this book. By a lot. It’s a good learning process.
These illustrations are way more complex than any I’ve made before. And they are representing a real-life place (although altered to fit my Lupita reality…) so I have very specific feelings and colors I’m trying to create. Very specific backgrounds and references and designs along every inch of these illustrations. When the book is done…there will be so much to celebrate.
👩🏻💻 Instagram
I have a goal to post my new portraits and videos up on my Instagram account as they flow out. I hope to connect with you there as well. @EmilyLupitaSeries

Every new year, I choose a word of the year, instead of a resolution. This year my word is courage. Sending my hope for courage to you, Emily.
Love it!
