Welcome
Hello! I’m Emily Lupita. I’m a travel writer & artist from rural Iowa currently living between my hometown south of Des Moines - and Ankara, the capital of Turkiye. I’m also an English teacher & editor.
I write Emily Lupita Explores - a weekly creativity journal where I share explorations from my art desk & cultural travels, as well as motherhood with my two Autistic sons.
👩🏻🎨 My Creativity Year
I spent the summer organizing my projects (in progress). I wrote about each project in my “Reaching Out” series of posts, where I reached out to my readers for 7 days in a row about my ongoing creative projects. At the end, I put up a poll to vote on your favorite project - the one you think I should work on next - here.
Sharing my ongoing projects was vulnerable for me - and so very helpful. I got some wise and useful feedback that I’m incorporating into each project. I could better see how much time each project might take to complete. And I could see the entirety of my creative “to do” list. I’ve got so much going on. I have a super full plate.
I love that. I love that my creative cup overflows. May the creative ideas continue to flow.
Good journey,
🚀 A Project Plan
I made a project plan to work on 4 projects over the next year. I’m ready to get these projects done. I set up my project plan in a similar way to the 4 themes I wrote about during my first year of this newsletter. By breaking down the projects into weekly writing / creating goals, I have a better chance of completing them and not getting overwhelmed.
So, today I’m committing to writing once a week - rotating between these four projects:
At the end of the year, my goal is to have 12 sections of each project finished - or to have finished the project - whichever comes first. Then I’ll take another overall look and go from there.
As I work this year, I’ll keep this proverb in mind: “The day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit.”
🦋 Here I Go
I’m so focused on and excited about this new chapter of my writing / artwork life - that I already published my first project (in progress) post. It’s called “The Journey Itself is Home” and is an essay for The Poet’s Daughter. Read it here.
I also have these additional projects (below) to weave into my creative schedule. They are already planted and will be blossoming soon - just in a different way.
Autism Brothers Books - the next book. The Brothers will travel in the book to my home state of IOWA!
Emily Lupita Explores - the guidebook. Lupita will keep on exploring Turkiye - these portraits take weeks for me to paint so I’ll keep working on them every morning, little by little.
